Day 2 - Tokyo

Breakfast at the hotel. Free day. Suggested visits : Start your trip peacefully by visiting Meiji Jingu shrine. Close by is the pedestrian street Takeshita Dori, famous for its many small boutiques. Tokyo Cycle Tour in English (half day group): Discover the capital from a different perspective thanks to this guided tour with bicycle. According to your dates of stay, you will do your visit on the morning or the afternoon. Morning programm Your tour starts in Kanda, a small downtown for Japanese businessmen where you can see many small Japanese style bars. You weave through Otemachi, the financial business center of Tokyo and pass under the famous traditional gates of the Tokyo Imperial Palace: Sakuradomon. Then you head to the Tsukiji Jogai outdoor market, an old fish market, where you stop for about 10 minutes to discover the many stores and restaurants which are offering, among other things, fresh fish products. Continue to Tsukuda Park and experience Tokyo local life before arriving at Nihombashi Bridge, once a national symbol and the starting point of five major roads from Japan. You finish the tour at your meeting point in Kanda district. Artisan Shopping Tour in Tokyo in English (half day group): Discover secrets of Japanese culture in Tokyo! Your tour begins in Ningyocho, a district known for its timeless traditions. You will stop and visit traditional candy shops and a bakery. In the latter, you will taste a small stuffed sponge cake: the Ningyoyaki. You then go to a rice cake store (Senbei) before going to a place famous for its hand-woven towels, called tenugui. You then head to one of the 8 shrines in the district where virtue, longevity, learning and wealth are worshipped. Afterwards, you continue to Nihonbashi, a former merchant district and now one of Tokyo's financial centers. Learn the secrets of Japanese calligraphy in this district while visiting an ancient stationery shop. Later, you enter a shop selling traditional toothpicks, handcrafted from the wood of the Kuromoji tree. This establishment is incredibly old, first opening its doors in 1704. This region and Gokayama’s region have several villages known for their authenticity and the style of thatched houses, such as Shirakawago. Ogimachi is the best known and it also offers art and craft museums. Guided Tour of Kyoto in English (half day group): Discover 3 exceptional sites in Kyoto with your English-speaking guide! You start by visiting the “nightingale floors” castle of Nijo-jo, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You continue your tour at the emblematic place of Kinkaku-ji, nicknamed the golden pavilion, another UNESCO World Heritage Site. You finish the tour with the discovery of the Kyoto imperial palace, which was used as the Emperor's residence until about 150 years ago. When the palace is closed, you visit the Kitano Ten mangu shrine: its main shrine is considered a national treasure! Kyoto Cycle Tour in English (half day group): Discover the most emblematic places of the ancient Japanese capital of Kyoto by bike! You start with a visit of the Toji temple, home to the highest wooden pagoda in Japan, followed by a visit of the Honganji temple, one of the 2 main temples of the Jodo Shinshu current which is the most practiced branch of Buddhism in Japan. Then you follow the Takase canal and the Kamo river, the most famous river of Kyoto. Suggested visits : Neighboring Kyoto, Osaka is the second largest metropolitan area in Japan and deserves a visit to see the essentials. Visit Osaka Castle, one of the most important castles of the country, which experienced many time periods and conflicts. Continue on to learn more at the Osaka History Museum. Walk around the districts of Umeda and Namba to do some shopping or try some renowned local gastronomy, or wander the animated streets of Dotonbori in the evening. If you wish to see more of traditional Japan, visit the Sumiyoshi sanctuary or the Buddhist temple Shitennoji, which is more than 1400 years old ! Overnight stay : Osaka.
